Sponsor/Funder: Drexel University and FOUNDATIONS , Inc.

Target Audience: FOUNDATIONS, Inc.

Collaborating Agencies: Martin Luther King High School, and Interlink Media

Date: 2004

Description: FOUNDATIONS, Inc. commissioned RBS to design and administer an ethnographic study of Philadelphia's Martin Luther King High School (MLKHS) to look at the process of change. FOUNDATIONS has assumed responsibility for management of MLKHS from the School District of Philadelphia, and plans on converting the school into a charter school. The FOUNDATIONS organization is implementing a new vision with infrastructure, leadership, relationships, and resources to build upon existing strengths and to improve student achievement. RBS has documented the first year of this transitional process using the voices of MLKHS students. RBS has shadowed, observed, and interviewed students during a typical school day; conducted focus groups with students from different grade levels; and surveyed students, parents, and administrators.
