Title: Camden After School Program

Sponsor/Funder: The Knight Foundation and Communities in Schools of New Jersey (CISNJ)

Target Audience: CISNJ

Collaborating Agencies: None

Dates: 2003 - 2006

Description: The goal of this after-school program is to improve academic achievement and social skills of children in grades pre-kindergarten through third. The program also seeks to impact the family dynamic through parental involvement in their children's education, increased cohesion, and reduced conflict. Communities in Schools of NJ, through partnerships with community based organizations, provides programming at two sites in Camden, New Jersey. The program is provided for three hours per day immediately after school. Specifically, RBS:

  • Conducts site visit observations.
  • Reviews program records.
  • Surveys students and teachers.
  • Analyzes qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Interviews site coordinators.
  • Prepares evaluation reports.

Outcomes: Evaluation reports stress the importance of the use of a comprehensive database, which was used, to some degree, by all site coordinators, and aids in the management of program data on attendance and disciplinary referrals.
