Description: The 21st Century Community Learning Centers are an initiative of the federal government administered by states. The goals of these after-school programs, which focus on literacy, are to improve the academic achievement and social skills of children in grades four through eight. The program also seeks to impact the family dynamic through parental involvement in their children's education, increased cohesion, and reduced conflict. The Cumberland Empowerment Zone Corporation, through partnerships with community-based organizations, provides programming for three hours after school and during the summer at sites in four districts in Cumberland County, NJ. The first interim report was submitted on the program. Specifically, RBS:

  • Conducts site visit observations.
