SAT Preparation for Critical Reading: The Touchstones Method

Author

This volume uses the Touchstones discussion method to create the skills of critical, active reading as tested by the new SAT. Twenty-five lessons develop the student's ability to interpret SAT critical reading sections more successfully. Through small group activities and large group discussions, students practice how to determine a text's meaning, its assumptions, its implications, its logical structure, and the way in which paired texts agree or disagree. The eighteen single and seven paired readings are drawn from multicultural sources and a variety of disciplines. All selections are between 400-850 words and contain vocabulary to be assessed in context. Each lesson contains sample SAT-style questions and explanations as well as discussion questions and strategies aimed at teaching students to read actively.
