Roller Coaster Physics

Grade level: 11-12

The Roller Coaster Physics Set brings physics to life in the classroom. The versatility and flexibility of K'NEX allows for a creative "what if" approach to learning physics. The curriculum is designed as a series of supplemental, hands-on activites to explore basic physics concepts. Students experience principles of physics first-hand and see physical laws in action through inquiry, investigation and experimentation with the 8-foot roller coaster and Looper/Inclined Plane Lab Stations.

Topics addressed in the curriculum's ten modules primarily fall into three categories: motion of objects; force and Newton's 1st Law of Motion; energy principles including work, conservation of energy and power. Each module consists of: Background/Support Information for the teacher; Concepts Worksheets with hands-on activities that qualitatively illustrate physics principles for general Physical Science students; and Calculations Worksheets with extensive quantitative exercise for High School Physics students.
