Visit our newly updated Instructional Coaching in Mathematics website where you'll find plenty of virtual, but very real, support:

  • A Math Coach Email List (similar to a Listserv)
  • A Math Coach WebBoard, a threaded discussion board with an online chat feature
  • The Report (and Executive Summary) of last year's NSF-sponsored conference, Instructional Coaching in Mathematics: Researchers and Practitioners Learning from Each Other
  • The Evaluator's Report on the conference, sharing what your coaching colleagues were thinking and talking about

...is recruiting for an Online Course for K-8 Math Coaches

This NSF-sponsored project is designed to support K-8 math coaches in small and rural districts where there are limited opportunities for face-to-face professional development.  Application forms will be available later this fall, with the pilot version of the course running in early 2009.

This five-day Institute will explore themes that resonate across district settings and coaching contexts:

  • Preparing to Coach: Observing, Analyzing, Studying, and Planning
  • Coaching in Real Time: Discerning and Responding
  • Coaching Strategically: Goal-Centered Modeling in the Classroom
  • Preparing for Thoughtful Dialogue
  • Orchestrating Meetings: Purposeful Planning and Facilitation
  • Cultivating Relationships with Administrators and other Leadership Colleagues  
  • Taking the Lead as a Teacher of Teachers
  • Examining the Role of Authority in Coaching

At the core of the institute are cases written by coaches that describe coaching sencarios in authentic detail.  The Institute's curriculum is based on Cultivating a Math Coaching Practice (Corwin Press, publication date: April 2009.)
